Second, although the war lingo was the most authentic we’ve heard in a military-based shooter, some of it was over the top and repetitive in-style enough to grate. ![]() Of, for heaven’s sake, give our soldiers some friggin flashlights. I would have appreciated it if the game were a little bit brighter and user-friendly on that front. It was nowhere near as bad as Doom 3 in this regard, but the corridors, indoor areas and nighttime-based missions were a strain on the eyes. While it was an overall enjoyable experience from an audio/visual perspective, we had a couple of issues.įirst off, the game is way too dark. Battlefield 3‘s campaign captures the look of a war environment with pinpoint accuracy. The graphics are great (though not as good as the PC counterpart), the sound is excellent and the general war ambience is spot-on. At times, Battlefield 3 does, but at others, we’re left with an overwhelming sense of meh. That being said, if you are going to build the hype around a game for as long as EA and DICE has done for Battlefield and bill it as a Call of Duty killer, you had better be able to back it up. ![]() OK, before getting into a review of the game’s campaign (and inevitably receive hate-mail from fanboys), we understand that Battlefield is primarily a multiplayer title. ![]() Instead, let’s just talk about what works and doesn’t in Battlefield 3, because the game is a strange beast that feels like two wildly divergent titles in one package.
